Luke 7-9

Luke 7

After he had ended all his sayings in the ears of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

2 And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and at the point of death. 3 And when he heard concerning Yahshua, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him that he would come and save his servant. 4 And they, when they came to Yahshua, supplicated him earnestly, saying, He is worthy that you should do this for him; 5 for he loves our nation, and himself built us our synagogue. 6 And Yahshua went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, Master, trouble not yourself; for I am not worthy that you should come under my roof: 7 therefore neither thought I myself worthy to come to you: but say the word, and my servant shall be healed. 8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it. 9 And when Yahshua heard these things, he marveled at him, and turned and said to the multitude that followed him, I say to you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole.

11 And it came to pass on the next day, that he went to a city called Nain; and his disciples went with him, and a great multitude. 12 Now when he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, there was carried out one that was dead, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. 13 And when the Teacher saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, Weep not. 14 And he came near and touched the bier: and the bearers stood still. And he said, Young man, I say to you, Arise. 15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. 16 And fear took hold on all: and they glorified Elohim, saying, A great prophet is arisen among us: and Elohim has visited his people. 17 And this report went forth concerning him in the whole of Judea, and all the region all around.

18 And the disciples of John told him of all. these things. 19 And John calling to him two of his disciples sent them to Yahshua, saying, Are you he that comes, or look we for another? 20 And when the men were come to him, they said, John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, Are you he that comes, or look we for another? 21 In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits; and on many that were blind he bestowed sight. 22 And he answered and said to them, Go and tell John the things which you have seen and heard; the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good tidings preached to them. 23 And blessed is he, whoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.

24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What went you out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken with the wind? 25 But what went you out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts. 26 But what went you out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. 27 This is he of whom it is written,

Behold, I send my messenger before your face,

Who shall prepare your way before you.

28 I say to you, Among them that are born of women there is no one greater than John: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of Yahweh is greater than he. 29 And all the people when they heard, and the publicans, justified Yahweh, being baptized with the baptism of John. 30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected for themselves the counsel of Yahweh, being not baptized of him. 31 To what then shall I liken the men of this generation, and what are they like? 32 They are like children that sit in the marketplace, and call one to another; who say, We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep. 33 For John the Baptist is come eating no bread nor drinking wine; and you say, He has a demon. 34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and you say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! 35 And wisdom is justified of all her children.

36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he entered into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. 37 And behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner; and when she knew that he was sitting at table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster cruse of ointment, 38 and standing behind at his feet, weeping she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee that had bidden him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what manner of woman this is that touches him, that she is a sinner. 40 And Yahshua answering said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he says, Teacher, say on. 41 A certain lender had two debtors: the one owed five hundred denarii and the other fifty. 42 When they had not with which to pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most? 43 Simon answered and said, He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most. And he said to him, You have rightly judged. 44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, you gave me no water for my feet: but she has wetted my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave me no kiss: but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 My head with oil you did not anoint: but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Therefore I say to you, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little. 48 And he said to her, Your sins are forgiven. 49 And they that sat at the table with him began to say within themselves, Who is this who even forgives sins? 50 And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace

Luke 8

And it came to pass soon afterwards, that he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good tidings of the kingdom of Yahweh, and with him the twelve, 2 and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Miriam that was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 3 and Joanna the wife of Chuzas Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered to them of their substance.

4 And when a great multitude came together, and they of every city resorted to him, he spoke by a parable: 5 The sower went forth to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden under foot, and the birds of the heaven devoured it. 6 And other fell on the rock; and as soon as it grew, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 And other fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew with it, and choked it. 8 And other fell into the good ground, and grew, and brought forth fruit a hundredfold. As he said these things, he cried, He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

9 And his disciples asked him what this parable might be. 10 And he said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Yahweh: but to the rest in parables; that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. 11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of Yahweh. 12 And those by the way side are they that have heard; then comes the devil, and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved. 13 And those on the rock are they who, when they have heard, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among the thorns, these are they that have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15 And that in the good ground, these are such as in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it fast, and bring forth fruit with patience.

16 And no man, when he has lighted a lamp, covers it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed; but puts it on a stand, that they that enter in may see the light. 17 For nothing is hid, that shall not be made manifest; nor anything secret, that shall not be known and come to light. 18 Take heed therefore how you hear: for whoever has, to him shall be given; and whoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that which he thinks he has.

19 And there came to him his mother and brethren, and they could not come at him for the crowd. 20 And it was told him, your mother and your brethren stand outside, desiring to see you. 21 But he answered and said to them, My mother and my brethren are these that hear the word of Yahweh, and do it.

22 Now it came to pass on one of those days, that he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples; and he said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake: and they launched forth. 23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. And he awoke, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? And being afraid they marveled, saying one to another, Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?

26 And they arrived at the country of the Gerasenes, which is over against Galilee. 27 And when he was come forth upon the land, there met him a certain man out of the city, who had demons; and for a long time he had worn no clothes, and lived not in any house, but in the tombs. 28 And when he saw Yahshua, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Yahshua, you Son of the Most High El? I plead you, torment me not. 29 For he was commanding the unclean spirit to come out from the man. For often it had seized him: and he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters; and breaking the bands asunder, he was driven of the demon into the deserts. 30 And Yahshua asked him, What is your name? and he said, Legion; for many demons were entered into him. 31 And they entreated him that he would not command them to depart into the abyss. 32 Now there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they entreated him that he would give them leave to enter into them. And he gave them leave. 33 And the demons came out from the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd rushed down the steep into the lake, and were drowned. 34 And when they that fed them saw what had come to pass, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. 35 And they went out to see what had come to pass; and they came to Yahshua, and found the man from whom the demons were gone out, sitting, clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Yahshua: and they were afraid. 36 And they that saw it told them how he that was possessed with demons was made whole. 37 And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes all around asked him to depart from them; for they were held with great fear: and he entered into a boat, and returned. 38 But the man from whom the demons were gone out prayed him that he might be with him: but he sent him away, saying, 39 Return to your house, and declare how great things Yahweh has done for you. And he went his way, publishing throughout the whole city how great things Yahshua had done for him.

40 And as Yahshua returned, the multitude welcomed him; for they were all waiting for him. 41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Yahshua’s feet, and supplicated him to come into his house; 42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as he went the multitudes thronged him.

43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, who had spent all her living upon physicians, and could not be healed of any, 44 came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately the issue of her blood stanched, 45 And Yahshua said, Who is it that touched me? And when all denied, Peter said, and they that were with him, Master, the multitudes press you and crush you. 46 But Yahshua said, Some one did touch me; for I perceived that power had gone forth from me. 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people for what cause she touched him, and how she was healed immediately. 48 And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you whole; go in peace.

49 While he yet spoke, there comes one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying, Your daughter is dead; trouble not the Teacher. 50 But Yahshua hearing it, answered him, Fear not: only believe, and she shall be made whole. 51 And when he came to the house, he did not permit any man to enter in with him, save Peter, and John, and Jacob, and the father of the maiden and her mother. 52 And all were weeping, and mourning her: but he said, Weep not; for she is not dead, but sleeps. 53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he, taking her by the hand, called, saying, Maiden, arise. 55 And her spirit returned, and she rose up immediately: and he commanded that something be given her to eat. 56 And her parents were amazed: but he charged them to tell no man what had been done.

Luke 9

And he called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.2 And he sent them forth to preach the kingdom of Yahweh, and to heal the sick. 3 And he said to them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staff, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats. 4 And into whatever house you enter, there remain, and there depart. 5 And as many as receive you not, when you depart from that city, shake off the dust from your feet for a testimony against them. 6 And they departed, and went throughout the villages, preaching the good tidings and healing everywhere.

7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done: and he was much perplexed, because that it was said by some, that John had been raised from the dead; 8 and by some, that EliYah had appeared; and by others, that one of the old prophets has risen again. 9 And Herod said, John I beheaded: but who is this, about whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him.

10 And the apostles, when they were returned, declared to him what things they had done. And he took them, and withdrew apart to a city called Bethsaida. 11 But the multitudes perceiving it followed him: and he welcomed them, and spoke to them of the kingdom of Yahweh, and them that had need of healing he cured. 12 And the day began to wear away; and the twelve came, and said to him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages and country all around, and lodge, and get provisions: for we are here in a desert place. 13 But he said to them, Give you them to eat. And they said, We have no more than five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy food for all this people. 14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down in companies, about fifty each. 15 And they did so, and made them all sit down, 16 And he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and broke; and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 And they ate, and were all filled: and there was taken up that which remained over to them of broken pieces, twelve baskets.

18 And it came to pass, as he was praying apart, the disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Who do the multitudes say that I am? 19 And they answering said, John the Baptist; but others say, EliYah; and others, that one of the old prophets is risen again. 20 And he said to them, But who do you say that I am? And Peter answering said, Messiah of Elohim. 21 But he charged them, and commanded them to tell this to no man: 22 saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up. 23 And he said to all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his burden daily, and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life shall lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose or forfeit his own self? 26 For whoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he comes in his own glory, and the glory of the Father, and of the holy angels. 27 But I tell you of a truth, There are some of them that stand here, who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the kingdom of Yahweh.

28 And it came to pass about eight days after these sayings, that he took with him Peter and John and Jacob, and went up into the mountain to pray. 29 And as he was praying, the form of his face was changed, and his raiment became white and dazzling. 30 And behold, there talked with him two men, who were Moses and EliYah; 31 who appeared in glory, and spoke of his decease which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33 And it came to pass, as they were parting from him, Peter said to Yahshua, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for EliYah: not knowing what he said. 34 And while he said these things, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my chosen: hear him. 36 And when the voice came, Yahshua was found alone. And they held their peace, and told no man in those days any of the things which they had seen.

37 And it came to pass, on the next day, when they were come down from the mountain, a great multitude met him. 38 And behold, a man from the multitude cried, saying, Teacher, I plead you to look upon my son; for he is my only child: 39 and behold, a spirit takes him, and he suddenly cries out; and it tears him that he foams, and it hardly departs from him, bruising him sorely. 40 And I supplicated your disciples to cast it out; and they could not. 41 And Yahshua answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and bear with you? Bring here your son. 42 And as he was yet coming, the demon dashed him down, and violently convulsed him. But Yahshua rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. 43 And they were all astonished at the majesty of Elohim.

But while all were marvelling at all the things which he did, he said to his disciples, 44 Let these words sink into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered up into the hands of men. 45 But they understood not this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

46 And there arose a reasoning among them, which of them was the greatest. 47 But when Yahshua saw the reasoning of their heart, he took a little child, and set him by his side, 48 and said to them, Whoever shall receive this little child in my name receives me: and whoever shall receive me receives him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same is great.

49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in your name; and we forbid him, because he follows not with us. 50 But Yahshua said to him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against you is for you.

51 And it came to pass, when the days were well-nigh come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52 and sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. 53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he were going to Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples Jacob and John saw this, they said, Rabbi, will you that we bid fire to come down from heaven, and consume them? 55 But he turned, and rebuked them and said, You know not what manner of spirit you are of, For the Son of man came not to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. 56 And they went to another village.

57 And as they went on the way, a certain man said to him, I will follow you wherever you go. 58 And Yahshua said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests; but the Son of man has not where to lay his head. 59 And he said to another, Follow me. But he said, Rabbi permit me first to go and bury my father. 60 But he said to him, Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but you, go and publish abroad the kingdom of Yahweh. 61 And another also said, I will follow you, Rabbi; but first permit me to bid farewell to them that are at my house. 62 But Yahshua said to him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of Yahweh.
